Duckling

What does one do when the world is on lockdown? Try something new of course. I did a lot of experimenting over the pandemic. Tried new brands of coloured pencils, yes, they all have unique properties. Plus, it’s a good excuse to add to my ever expanding collection of coloured pencils. ;) I experimented on new surfaces and added new techniques to my repertoire.

Here is one result of this experimentation, a duckling drawn on drafting film. Drafting film is far different to any surface I have ever worked on as it is a translucent film made of 100% polyester and is most commonly used by architects.

It was a love hate relationship at first as I had to learn a completely new way to draw and lay down colour, but once I got the knack I fell in love. Colours are so vibrant on this surface and because it is translucent you can draw on both sides giving a layered almost 3D effect to the drawing.
