Then and Now

My journey with couloured pencils began about six years ago with a “Mommy Stay-cation”. I was excited to have a week to myself, something I hadn’t experienced in over a decade, and decided to pull out the art supplies that hadn’t seen the light of day in twenty years. I started with a portrait of my cat in watercolour. I’m not sure what possessed me to then try with coloured pencils as I had only ever used them for colouring books when I was young, but it was the best decision I could have made as I have fallen completely in love with coloured pencils and have never looked back.

I have learned and grown so much as an artist in the past six years of my coloured pencil journey, especially in the last two years during the pandemic.

The first image is the first coloured pencil portrait I did six years ago, the second is my most recent.
